FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A1) Why does my cartridge heat up?

Electronic cigarettes are more like electric cigarettes: they operate on a simple yet fairly strong electric current to generate vapor. The reason for this is two-fold:

E-cig companies aiming for more vapor: In an effort to increase vapor production electric cigarettes also emit more heat than ever before. The problem can be improved by using better heat insulation on the body of the cartridge but most manufacturers using metal casing.

Heavy smokers: Most smokers – especially those who try ecigs for the first time – tend to draw longer, harder puffs. The same heat that generates vapor also heats up the cartridge. This is the main reason why ecig smokers face this warming up of the cartridge. This problem is made worse by users trying to draw too many puffs in rapid succession. The heat is often worse when the cartridge does not have much liquid left.

Manufacturers are still a little behind as they try to balance the heating problem with the demand for vapor. A majority of the vaping customers do not have a major problem though with heating and vapor production is considered as being more desirable.

A2) What is the best way to fill the empty cartridges with E-liquid?

how to fill e-cigarette
When it comes to refilling the cartridges, although it is a very simple process, we strongly recommend that you fully understand the process of refilling cartridges correctly because the spill or leakage of liquid on your hands or mouth could be dangerous. There are many Youtube videos on the Internet, which demonstrate that process. We recommend you to check them out and understand the process well before doing it.

In general, just open the white cap at the back of the cartridge (using a pin or a pen), turn the e-liquid bottle upside down onto the cartridge and drip a few drops of e-liquid. Be sure to hold the cartomizer at an angle as liquid dripped into the center tube will leak through the battery connector. Repeat the process until the filler material no longer absorbs liquid. In general, about 18-20-drops (1 ml) are needed per each refill. The first refill in a blank cartridge may require more liquid (20-25 drops). As the filler material becomes more saturated, it takes longer for the liquid to fully be absorbed. Therefore, a wait of several minutes toward the end of the process may be required to ensure the material is completely wet.

Dripping too fast when saturating the filling will result in liquid seeping out the battery connector end of the cartridge. Keep the battery connector end covered with the silicon rubber caps, often referred to as condoms. when filling to minimize leakage. Once the cartridge filled, do the following:

- Get a paper towel and keep it at the battery connector end

- Put the open end (from which you just filled in the liquid) in the mouth and blow onto it. Any extra liquid in the cartridge would be blown out.

- Let the cartridge sit for couple of hours to ensure that any extra liquid gets dried out.

This is important because if the extra liquid drops into the battery, it might damage the battery.

Put the white cap back and you should be back in business.

If you are getting burnt smell and/or no vapor after filling the liquid, try adding a few more drops in the cartridge.

A3) What is an indication that the battery is fully charged?

Once fully charged the light on the USB charger will turn green, letting you know your battery is ready for use and can be unscrewed.

A4) What should I do if my cartridges don't produce enough vapor?

Sometimes the brand new cartridges have a blocked air passage. We suggest to our customers to try the following:
With the cartridge screwed on to the battery, keep the LED side of the battery in your mouth (about half to one inch) and then blow hard onto it a couple of times. You should see smoke coming out of the other side of the cartridge. Now just try inhaling your cigarette normally and you should see the vapor coming out. Please try this a couple of times and if it still does not create vapor, please contact us so that we could send you an appropriate number of replacement packs.

A5) What should I do if some of my cartridges are leaking?

The first thing we strongly recommend is to immediately throw away those cartridges. We have had very few cases of leakage in our cartridges but if that happens, we recommend that you first immediately wash your mouth many times with water.

One other thing we would recommend. After you have opened a cartridge pack, we recommend that you store these carts on a horizontal (flat surface). Don't keep these cartridges vertically - this could lead to a liquid coming down due to gravity (if by chance there is a little extra liquid in the cart). Also, we recommend that when smoking, keep the cigarette horizontal or close to horizontal. Smoking vertically sometimes may result in possible leakage. Again it should not happen but it is just a recommendation to avoid any potential issues like this.

A6). How many empty cartridges does the 10ml E-liquid bottle fill on average?

20-drops (1 ml) are needed per each refill. However, the first refill will require more liquid (25-30 drops). So on average it would take 10 cartridges to use up the 10 ml of our E-liquid.

A7). What is an Electronic Cigarette?

Electronic cigarette is a smart device that creates vapor by heating a food-grade liquid contains small amount of clean nicotine. It provides the satisfaction of smoking a regular cigarette but without any odor, ash or flame. Also there is no tar, smoke or thousands of carcinogenic chemicals present in a regular cigarette which are the major reason of health risk in a regular cigarette. Since electronic cigarettes do not burn tobacco, they can be smoked in many places where traditional cigarettes are not allowed.

A8). Are electronic cigarette healthier than normal cigarettes?

Although many of our customers claim that they feel much healthier since they switched to electronic cigarettes, FDA has not yet approved them and hence no official health claims can be made. However, an electronic cigarette does not have any smoke, tar, ash, or thousands of carcinogenic chemicals that a regular cigarette has. Smoke, tar, and the carcinogenic chemicals are the major cause of health risk in a regular cigarette.

A9). What are the ingredients in the vapor?

The vapor mainly consists of a mixture of water vapor and pharmaceutical high grade pure nicotine. In addition, there are some food grade chemicals in the vapor, mostly consisting of:

a. Vegetable glycerin (VG) - made from vegetable oil and commonly used additive in food and soft drinks.VG helps make the vapor rich.
b. Propylene glycol (PG) - commonly used ingredient in salad dressings, soft drinks, cake mixes and food colorings. PG makes the electronic cigarette taste better.
c. Food grade flavorings - high-quality flavorings that make the vapor taste great.

A10). How to clean an electronic cigarette battery?

It is important to clean and maintain your electronic cigarette to ensure maximum performance and a longer life. The battery should be cleaned periodically depending on how often you use it. We recommend to clean it once a week.

Below is the method that we recommend to our customers:
1. Inspect the battery – Look for residue which may be caught and stuck inside the threads of the battery. 2. Use a push pin or a needle to go around the center piece (inside the threads) to clean out any dust/residue. If needed wrap a corner of a cleaning wipe around the pin and then use that to clean out the area inside the battery. 3. Very lightly Soak Cotton Swab in Rubbing Alcohol (or Hydrogen Peroxide) 4. Clean the center piece of the battery (inside the threads) with the swab. 5. Use a cleaning wipe to clean the outside of the threads of the battery. 6. Allow it to dry: Let the battery dry for a few seconds.

A11). My battery does not produce any vapor. Is it defective?

Before discarding the battery, perform the following steps to test if it is actually defective.

1. Check Your Battery to see if it is sufficiently charged. Place the e-cig in your mouth backwards—with the LED side in your mouth and blow into the e-cig. This activates the battery. If the LED light comes on, your battery is working and doesn't need to be charged. If it doesn't light up, try charging the battery.
OR if the tip of your battery is blinking several times (about 5 times or so) when you drag on it, it needs to be recharged.

2. If you've checked that your battery is charged, and you still get no vapor, you may have a dud or clogged cartridge. It's possible for a bit of dried e-juice to clog the cartridge. Take the cartridge in your hand, with the thread side facing down. Tap it forcefully on a hard surface, like a desk. This can help redistribute the some juice for optimal vapor production.
If that still doesn't work, take the cartridge, screw it onto the battery, and blow into it. Do not inhale, as you normally would: blow out. This will activate the battery and heat up the cartridge. You should be able to feel it getting warm. Once it gets hot, it should burn off anything that's clogging it up.

3. If that still doesn't produce any vapor try this: With the cartridge screwed on to the battery, keep the LED side of the battery in your mouth (about half to one inch) and then blow hard onto it a couple of times. You may or may not see smoke coming out of the other side of the cartridge. Now flip the e-cig and try taking 2 or 3 strong puffs. Flip the e-cig again, keep the LED side in your mouth and try blowing again a couple of times. Try this couple of times and see if that makes a difference.

4. If you still get no vapor, try the same battery with one or two different cartridges. If still no vapor is produced, try using another battery with those cartridges. Depending on the combination, you should be able to identify if it is the battery or the cartridge that is defective.

If you have identified that it is the battery that is defective and it is a new battery, it is most likely defective. If it is the battery that you have been using for a while, it may just need a good cleaning

Note: If you fill your own liquid in the cartridges, it is possible any extra liquid might drip into the battery and cause short-circuit. Anytime, you feel that the any drop of e-liquid might have dropped inside the battery, unscrew the cartridge from the battery, hold the battery from the LED side and shake it (with the thread side downwards) like a thermometer to discard any e-juice. Then, let the battery dry for about a day or two. Once the liquid has dried off, it is likely that the battery starts to work again.

A12) How do I take care of my battery to get a long life?

Taking good care of your battery will not only increase the life of your battery, it will produce less frustration while using it. If your e-cig is not producing enough vapor, you can check our July month's article My-battery-does-not-produce-any-vapor. Is-it-defective? for some helpful tips.

Some helpful tips that would increase your e-cig battery life:
1. Do not store or leave your battery in areas with high temperatures (e.g. outside in the sun) or low temperatures (e.g. outside in the night in colder areas, inside the refrigerator, etc) or high humidity (e.g. rainy conditions).
2. Avoid dropping your battery on a hard surface. Remember your e-cig has the same battery as your cell-phone. It may damage your e-cigarette battery completely.
3. Do not store your battery in pockets or other places with a lot of dust. Pocket lint can get inside the battery opening and cause the switch to malfunction. When not in use, carry your battery in a protective case.
4. Do not poke paperclips or other hard items inside the battery. Also do not use compressed air.
5. Charge the battery before it is totally drained. When you feel your battery is getting weak, just switch to a backup, charged battery and charge the weak one. A totally drained battery could result in much shorter life.
6. Make sure your hands are dry when using your e-cigarette.
7. While inhaling, try to keep your e-cigarette in or close to horizontal direction, else e-liquid may drip in the battery or leak into your mouth.
8. Unscrew the cartomizer from the e-cigarette battery when not in use.
9. Although leaving the battery to charge overnight will not damage the battery but it might shorten the life. So don't let your battery charge for more than 4-5 hours at one time.

CLEANING YOUR BATTERY ON A REGULAR BASIS
Periodic cleaning of the batteries is strongly recommended as the contacts do become dirty under normal usage. We recommend you to follow these steps once or twice a week to keep the battery clean:

1. Using a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol, swab down the threads and contacts on the battery. Make sure the swab is not soaked, rather slightly damp to prevent the rubbing alcohol from damaging the battery internally. Make sure to wipe the swabbed-down areas with a dry paper towel and allow to dry completely before using again.
2. Roll a small piece of paper in such a way that it has a pointed end on one side. Use that end to clean any hard-to-reach areas near and around the contacts on the battery. Then blow off any lose dirt from that area.
3. Keep the LED side of the battery in your mouth (about half to one inch) and then blow hard onto it a couple of times. You may or may not see smoke coming out of the other side of the cartridge. Now flip the e-cig and try taking 2 or 3 strong puffs. Flip the e-cig again, keep the LED side in your mouth and try blowing again a couple of times. Try this couple of times. This often cleans up any blockage in the air passage.

Remember your battery has the same electronic battery inside that goes in the latest smart phones. So anything that could damage your phone could also damage your Electronic cigarette.

If you fill your own liquid in the cartridges, please refer to How-do-i-refill-a-blank-cartridge on how to fill you cartridge correctly. Incorrect filling could result in liquid dripping into the battery, rendering it useless.

A13). I am experiencing a short cartridge life. Why is that and how can I fix it?

Normally, one cartridge lasts for about 150-200 puffs. Following are some tips that could help you achieve a longer cartridge life.

  • Don't leave cartridges open after removing them from their sealed package or assembled e-cigarette. If you are not using the cartridge, make sure to put rubber caps on the cartridges.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures. Temperatures <60F and >80F could result in the liquid evaporating and shorter cartridge life.
  • If you travel frequently with your e-cigarette, it is important to use a portable carry case. Transporting the assembled e-cigarette without a case can cause it to be engaged unintentionally with airflow being moved through the unit, such as in a shirt or pants pocket.
  • If you don't plan to use the unit for more than a day, unscrew the cartridge from the battery and seal with the rubber cap. Then store both the battery and cartridge inside a portable case.
  • Number of puffs from each eCig cartridge varies based on individual smoking habits. A regular cigarette has about 10-12 puffs. Depending on your smoking style, shorter or greater life could be experienced than expected from a e-cigarette cartridge.
  • Cartridges should be used within 5 days after opening.
  • Cartridge shelf life is 12 – 18 months from their production date. Our cartridges are normally less than 2 months old when we ship them.
  • After opening, store the cartridges in or close to horizontal direction with rubber-caps on.

A14). Getting too many duds or getting no vapor. Helpful tip

As batteries get a little old, sometimes the center piece in the battery (on the threads side) gets pushed down with usage. This is specially true for our Vertigo, Mirage, and Geneva batteries. So when you screw in your cartridge, there may be little or no contact between the battery and cartridge metal parts. This may result in no vapor and it might seem that the cartridge is a dud.
Helpful Tip: Place a small pin (like a push-pin or needle) in the space between that center piece and the thread walls around it. Then incline the pin at an angle and try to lift up the center piece a little. With the pin at an angle, go around the center piece couple of times. You would see that the center piece has now come up a little. Now screw on the cartridge and you might find that your dud is suddenly working.

We recommend when charging your battery that you do not screw the battery into the charger too tightly. If you see that the center piece in the battery appears to be pushed down, use the method mentioned above to restore it to the original position.

B6). How do I fill a tank tube clearomizer / tank?

For EGO Tank Tube, following steps could be followed to fill them:
a. Pull the mouth piece (drip tip) out from the tank tube
b. Tilt it at an angle and fill the e-liquid in the metal cylinder (with cotton inside). About 20-25 drops should be enough. This is exactly same as filling a regular ecig cartridge.
c. Make sure that no e-liquid goes in the narrow center tube (in the center of the metal cylinder). That narrow tube is used for air flow.
d. Push the metal cylinder down with your thumb (or the top part of the drip tip) and then pull it down from the other side. Don't remove it completely but just enough to tilt it an angle to fill liquid in the tank
e. Tilt the tank at an angle and fill the tank with the liquid. Don't overfill as it might result in leaking. Three-fourth of tank is normally enough
f. The hole on the side of metal cylinder will now be used for e-liquid absorption in the filter and keep it wet.

So filling tank tube is basically 2 step process:
First fill the center tube with e-liquid. This is very similar to filling your blank cartridges. However this needs to be only first time on a new tank tube to prime it up.
Then fill the cylinder around that tube by pushing the center tube down.

There are many Youtube videos on the Internet that describe this process as well.
